Aston Villa picked up a 2-2 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday evening. Normally, this would be seen as a decent result - but the manner in which the Villans threw away a 2-0 lead did not sit well with some of the Villa massive.

Nevertheless, they will have a brilliant opportunity to dust themselves off and get back to winning ways. On Thursday evening, Unai Emery’s men will square off against Olympiakos in the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final.

As things stand, Villa have six players who are side-lined with injuries - a further two are considered injury doubts. Ahead of Thursday’s big game, we’ve rounded up the latest injury news and updates from Villa Park:

Boubacar Kamara

Boubacar Kamara’s injury is an unfortunate one. Back in February, the tireless midfielder tore his ACL, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign. He underwent surgery for his injury back in February - it is believed that he should be able to play again in October. Nevertheless, his loss will be felt by Villa, especially in the heart of midfield.

Emi Buendia

Another long-term absentee, Emi Buendia is a fantastic and adaptable attacking option for the Villans. Sadly, it seems he will not play again this season due to a problem with his knee. He is thought to be making ‘good progress’ with his injury, though. He has already taken to the training field once again - Villa fans will be hoping he will be fit for the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Tyrone Mings

Villa have been without their captain, Tyrone Mings, for almost all of the 2023/24 season. He picked up a major ACL injury on the first day of the season, when Villa were smashed 5-1 by Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United. A few weeks ago, a video emerged of Mings in injury rehabilitation - the muscle in his right leg had noticeably atrophied. As such, it seems unlikely we will see him again this season - though he is thought to be ‘progressing well’ and is ‘back on the field’.

Jacob Ramsey

Home-grown star Jacob Ramsey has gone from strength to strength since his introduction into Villa’s senior squad, but a foot injury has pretty much ended his season. He is thought to be having various problems in this area, including with one of his toes and his ankle. As things stand, Villa are being careful with him - they do not want to rush him back into first-team football while he is not fully fit.

Alex Moreno

Alex Moreno started the season suffering from an injury and it’s likely he will end it in the same fashion. When the campaign kicked off, he was dealing with a hamstring problem. Now the Spaniard has an issue with his calf muscle. It is not thought to be a serious injury, but it’s been enough to keep him out of action for the last couple of weeks. That said, he could return before the season concludes.

Nicolo Zaniolo

The 2023/24 campaign has been a frustrating one for Nicolo Zaniolo. He has not set the world alight at Villa like many thought he would, but he still has plenty of time to realise his true potential in the Midlands. He was brought off with an injury during Villa’s Europa Conference League second leg tie with Lille. While he is back in training, a concrete return date for the Italian has yet to be specified.

Emi Martinez

Talismanic goalkeeper Emi Martinez is currently an injury doubt. The World Cup winner has a thigh injury - as such, he will probably miss out on the Olympiakos game. Despite this, it is thought that will not be out for much longer. Martinez could well be fit to play again when Villa take on Brighton on May 5th.

Youri Tielemans

Picked up on a free transfer in the summer from Leicester City, Youri Tielemans has proven to be a canny piece of business so far. He is injured at the moment, but it’s not as severe as some may have initially feared. The Belgian midfielder picked up a groin injury during Villa’s clash with Chelsea at the weekend. Emery initially speculated that he could be out for several weeks, but now, he is expected to be back in time for the second leg against Olympiakos.
